Getting Through Christmas

{The breaking news started midmorning. Elementary school. 20 kids shot. Five was the youngest. Teachers killed. I broke down. All those children. So, in honor of the kids who passed away, ten days short of Christmas, I give this poem. I imagine them all excited for the holidays, telling what they want to have under the tree. }
Dear Santa

Dear Santa, here's my Christmas list.
I hope you'll bring it all.
I've only asked for gifts my parents
can't find at the mall.

I'd like to have a UFO,
with aliens inside,
and maybe a Tyrannosaurus Rex
that I could ride.

A ninety-nine foot robot
is a present I could use.
I'll also need a time machine,
and rocket-powered shoes.

Please bring a gentle genie
who will grant my every wish,
and don't forget a wizard's wand,
and, yes, a talking fish.

Of course, I'll need a unicorn,
and won't you please provide
a dragon, and a castle
in the English countryside.

Of course, the weight of all these things
might cause your sleigh to crash.
If that's the case, dear Santa,
just make my growing up years, cheery and bright!

  2. This shooting incident shocked the world and the world leaders. It is very painful to see this happens 10 days short of celebrating Christmas. Despite several arguments on gun control, I would want to make a clear stand about it. I'd want to have a gunless society. I mean, guns are for soldiers who defend enemies whether on a national level or foreign aggressors. I don't understand why there is this law licensing people to have guns. We can live without guns anyway. So why there is a need to have one?

  3. I am all for what your friend Juicy Jay said... gunless society.
I always say that America has so much freedom in their rights and law that they forgot what it's like to protect those who are defenseless and vulnerable. They are blinded of that freedom that they lost sight of their right direction and promise to love and protect.
    So sad indeed...

  4. Hi Pao, Jay and Dio!
If only, we can separate our kids from adult issues, this world would be safer for them. Sadly the times are getting harder, and its the children that suffer the most. Even the culprit, bata rin siya. He's only 20. He first shot his mom before he went to the kids' school. grabe..
