There’s Nothing Like A Good Heart

I found a link to this young man’s cause through another blog (Rafol Draws His Thoughts ) who put out a word for some support. My eyes pricked immediately upon seeing a young man named Joemil Reyes kind of help for this man. He is actually in active search for someone who only goes by the name ROLDAN PINEDA JIMENEZ or just plain Mang Roldan. This story was already featured in a local TV program, Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho.

Joemil chanced upon Mang Roldan in an eatery. He overheard him buying a P 5 worth of rice. His hair was dirty and wet. He just covered it with green towel and seemed shy about his appearance. Surely, he doesn’t want people to look at him. Less pity him. But Jeomil went straight to the man and ask if he wanted anything more to eat. And he’ll pay for it. He was too shy but said yes in a shaky voice...

Such a case of burning desire to help a fellow man. Who care deeply for other people who struggle a lot in life, fighting a force of a thousand sadness, deaths, sickness, and empty stomachs. Oh it is so easy to ignore the universe while we are so comfortably tucked in our own little fancy rooms. For some of us who always play it safe. Who never care much unless you’re a mother, husband, children, siblings, nephews, and nieces.

We all live under the same sky, share the same moon and sun. Only not all of us have meals, drinks, comfort and blankies. Others have so much choice, but there are a lot others who have none. Honestly this is so far out of my comfort zone. I can easily shed bucket of tears for anything about reuniting a lost child to her family, or a sick person given free medication and all that sorts, but I can also so easily shrug off shoulder to begging hands for fear that they are part of syndicate or I can easily close my eyes to tramps and vagrants I met along the way. All these while crying to every well-scripted episodes of “Wish Ko Lang”. May be I only like seeing them on TV, and not in flesh.

What a shame.

So this advocacy sets a whole new world of understanding for me. May be we could be more for others and share in this advocacy.

But more of all, I pray that Joemil would win this. And take Mang Roldan safely home.
